Detective-Sergeant Curnmings stated that there had been a conspiracy between the accused, who had ''taken down" people for some hundreds of pounds. They had distributed books throughout New Zealand. It was understfed|n|hat one of them intended to leave foijjA ustralia to-morrow, taking the money witli him. He asked for a remand and substantial bail. The accused were remanded, bail being fixed at £3OO each. Smith's bail was immediately forthcoming.
