DAIRY CONTROL BILL.

(PEE3S ASSOCIATION TELIGBVVI.) WELLINGTON, August 31. The New Zealand Farmers' Union has decided to 00-operate with the Dairy Council in securing the favourable vote of the' milk suppliers at the referendum, which takes places in October. Upon the result of this vote depends whether the Dairy Control Bill recently passed will become law or not.

Messrs A. H. Turnbull and Co. are in receipt of the following cable from their principals, W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., dated Lot don 29th: —"At tallow auctions to-day 1250 casks were offered and 993 sold. Tallow has advanced 3d per cwt. A3 compared with last auctions."

HIDES EASIER.

(SPECIAL TO "THE PBXSS.") DUjnEDIjN, August 31. As t 0 the decline ia the value of hides coinp.ained of by the butchers, this may roughly be stated at about 20 per cent. This fact lias taXen place during August, a. very perceptible decline having been noticeable at the last two fortnightly sales. The average butchers! abattoir ox hide is to-day worth from 7£d to 10id per lb, while cow hides are worth 5d to Td per lb. A line to the extent of the decline is afforded by the fact that to-day's led per lb' hide formerly would have brought 12d or 13d.
