PROGRESS LEAGUE.
CITY COUNCIL GRANT. CONDITIONS IMPOSED. At tne annual general meeting of tho Council of the League on June UHh last, tne loilowing resolution was adopted:—"That the salaries ox the omcers De reconsidered by the Executive at an early date." For the next meeting of tho executive of the League, Mr W. M. lyers, acting honorary treasurer, has given the following notice of motion: — • "That the letter of the Christchurch City Council, in reply to the secretary's letters of July 13th and 19th, 1923, asking for a contribution of £034 to the league's general fund for the current year, in which the City Council states that a grant of £250 has been placed on the current year's estimates on condition that the salaries of tho League's officers remain as they are at present, be acknowledged, and that the City Council be informed that it will be impracticable for the League to carry on its work if contributions to its general fund are made conditional. Further, that the City Council' be asked to receive a deputation from the executive m support of the following requests: —(1) That the City Council will withdraw the condition imposed on its present grant, and (2) That its present grant be increased from £230 to £334, representing the city's proper contribution under the scheme of contributions adopted by local bodies being members of the lieagu© and levying rates."-
