Dudley Dobson, president of the Canterbury Automobile Association, entertained members of the council of the Association at an inlormal luncheon at the Beresford yesterday, to mark the closing of tITe organisation's year. Mr Alastair Shannon, editor of the "Madras Mail," arrived at Wellington by the Tahiti this week After a few days in Wellington he will visit relatives in Hawke's Bay, and then 6ail for London to take up an appointment ; there.

Mr A. W. Cook, of the auctioneering staff of Messrs H. Matson and Co., who has been laid aside for several weeks with a severe attack of influenza, made his reappearance at the Addington market yesterday, quite restored to health. The committee of the Canterbury Industrial Association at the meeting last night decided, on the motion of Mr W. J- Jenkin, president, to send the following wireless message to the Prime Minister: "Resolution passed unanimously by executive of Canterbury Industrial Association that to the R.t Hon. Mr Massey, the very best wishes of the members be conveyed for bon voyage, complete success of Xew Zealand's participation at the Imperial Economic Conference, and safe return to the Dominion." Air F- D- Thomson, private secretary to* the Prime Minister, who is accompanying Mr Massey on his mission to London, was met on Monday evening by his colleagues in the secretarial corps and given a hearty send-off. Very cordial references were made by the speakers at the gathering to Mr Thomson's long service as a Ministerial secretary, to the arduous work he had: performed in his present position, and to his popularity with those with whom ho Was associated. Bon voyage and a safe return were the wishes expressed to Sir Thomson, whose health was enthusiastically toasted.
