BOWLING.
AKAROA CLUB. The 18th annual meeting of the Akaroa Bowling Club was held on Monday, Mr W. \V. Williams presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed with the family of the late Mr Geo. W. Thomas. The annual report congratulated members on having had a very successful season. The president's gold medal had been won by T. H. Morcom, the championship singles by Rev. J. W. Hayward, the Sim's Pern badges by H. L. Capes and T. H. Morcom, the A.B.C. badges by H. L. Capes and Stauley Hayward, aud the Vial Trophy by W. Priest. The thanks of the club were due to the ladies who had provided afternoon tea through the season, and to members and visitors who had made donations to the funds. Deep regret .was expressed at the loss by death of the lion, treasurer of the club, the late Mr G. W. Thomas. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £2 19s 7d, and the special pavilion fund a credit of £55 lis Id. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. H. Westenra; vicepresident, Mr S. W, Hayward; hon. secretary, Mr T. Lewitt; hon. treasurer, Mr C. E. Johnstone; committee, Messrs H. h. Capes, T. H. Morcom, J. S. Dodds, A. f! C. Williamson, and W. W. Williams; delegate to Canterbury Centre, Mr Jas. Brown; hon. auditor, Mr J. D. Bruce Votes of thanks were accorded- the retiring officers, a special tribute being paid to the work of the retiring president and the ex-secretary, Mr A. 11. Westenra, wlose enthusiastic services in that capacity for many years had been of the greatest benefit to the club. Appreciative reference was also made to the work of the ladies in providing afternoon tea, and on the motion of Mr J. D. Bruce, it was resolved that it be a recommendation to the executive to recognise _ their services by arranging either a special ladies' day on the green, or a complimentary social gathering. Further recommendations to the executive were: —To report upon the advisability of issuing debentures for the purpose of raising the mortgage of £250, and to consider the question of running a gala in the summer in aid of the general funds of the club. On the motion of Mr Morcom, it was resolved to protest against the proposed doubling of the annual levy to the Canterbury Centre, and to ask the club's delegate to obtain tbe reasons for such, an increase. It was decided to have the official opening of the season on Thursday. October 11th. At the subsequent meeting of th<s executive the following committees were appointed: —Green: Messrs H. 1».
