The secretary of the Anti-Betting League, giving evidence before the Bet. ting laxation Commission, suggested that ii: there were a betting tax the newspapers should bear a share, as they afforded great facilities for betting by publishing the oddij and prices, without winch betting could not be conducted. Ho wuuxd not be prepared to suppress the early sporting editions of the evening papers, but would exclude selections, betting tips, and track sprints, ihousands betted solely v upon newspaper information. The tax should be baaed on the amount staked, not on tno odds laid.
