Ihe dock strikers' committee has called the strike off and advised the men to accept the union's decision. [The dockers' strike was an "unofficial" protest against the reduction of one shilling a day in wages on account of the reduction in the cost of living as provided in the national agreement The men contended that tho Board of Trade figures relating to the cost of living were inaccurate.] WASTE AT HULL. (Received July 12th, 11.20 p.m.) LONDON, July 12. Bananas worth £20,000 were thrown into the Bea at Hull. Tho dock strikers would not allow the shipping clerks to discharge the cargo. The vessel had to return to the West Indies, so she put to sea and jettisoned the bananas. ANOTHER "UNOFFICIAL" STREKE. SMITHFIELD WORKERS OUT. LONDON, July 11. Two thousand meat carriers and labourers at Smithiield markets, including 500 cold storage workers, are striking against the proposal to reduce wages by 10s a week. It is stated that sympathy with the dockers is also a factor in the strike, which is unofficial. N.S.W. COAL-MINERS. A REPORTED SETTLEMENT. (Reeeired July 12th, 10.35 p.m.) SIDNEY/July 12. The Coal Conference resumed to-day. Although no details are available, it is unofficially stated that the trouble has been settled. == i
