The eradication of the blackberry pest has become a big problem throughout the Dominion, and Hawke's Bay is not by any means free from the pest, states the Hawke's Bay "Herald." One of the ureas infected is the Puketitiri Reserve of the Hawke's Bay County Council, and at a meeting of that body, the chairman, Mr T. Gordon endorsed the suggestion, and emphasised success that they had had in planting blackberry areas with piuus uisignis". lhe Council decided to carrv out the suggestion of the chairman. "The black-oeiry pest is worse than our national debt. It would pav us to double that debt to rid the country ot the pest. During a recent trio I w*nt through 100 miles of country and every man I saw was slashing blackberries," said Mr Chambers.
