LACK OF HOME TRAINING. (raXSS ASSOCIATION TBLBOftAK.) AUCKLAND, July 11. It is difficult to know what to do with these bodies of young men coming here for breaking, entering, and theft, said his Honour Mr Justice Herdman, when 10 young men, with ages ranging from 16 t,o 26, came before him for sentence on dishonesty charges. This procession is a lamentable business. The police and Justice Department! cannot check it by punishments. There is no doubt the fault lies in home training. The boys do not seem to be brought up as they were a few years ago. Jack Norman Alfred O'Moara, aged 26, with a bad theft record, received two years' hard labour for breaking and entering. The other cases were mOßtly dealt with as probationary. Joseph Thurston, a ship's fireman, for wounding, with intent, the fourth engineer of the Arawa by hitting him on the head wtili a spanner, with sentenced to two years' hard labour. His Honour said it was a deliberate, unjustifiable, and cowardly assault, and it waa a wonder the engineer was not killed.
