FARMERS' UNION.

METHVEN BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Methven Branch of the Farmers' Union was held on Monday. Present: Messrs T. S. Harrison (presiding), R. N. Elliott, J. T. Mangin, A. T. Lilley, Jas. Carr, R. J. Low, F. S. McDonald, C. T. Jessep, Alex Geddis, O. Hale, W. C. Hobbs, A. F. Marr, H. E. Jessep, and 11. Maginness. Quotations for manures and ploughshares were received from several firms. It was remarked that manures could bo purchased locally at the prices quoted. In regard to ploughshares, it was decided to place an order for 15 dozen. It was decided to ask Mr D. Jones to deliver an address on the work of the Meat Board on July 26th. A letter was received from the Ashburton Electric Power Board with reference to the removal of poles from roads at present occupied by both telephone and electric ' power poles, stating that the Board would bear the cost of moving the wires if the telephone subscribers would move the poles. It was decided to ask Mr Templin to visit the district to discuss the matter with the interested parties, and that Messrs Carr and Marr wait upon the Road Board to urge it to go into the matter of the dispute between the Power Board, Telegraph Department, and telephone subscribers.
