NEW MECHANICAL GEARING.
AN AMAZING MACHINE. \ (BI CABLB-PBESS association— coetmoht ) (AOTTEAUAN AHD K.E. ~,B LB ABSOCIATIOH.) NEW YORK, July 4. The Pittsburgh papers are giving much space to the demonstration of a new principle of nieclianfcal power invented by Mr Geo. Smith Morrison of Australia. Severe tests were applied at the. Carnegie Institute of Technology before scientists and practical machinists, who expresesd amazement at the machine's possibilities. Briefly, it is a cogless gear, by which a five horse•power motor drives one end of a, shaft at 17,000 revolutions a minute, while the other end turns only five revolutions an hour, developing sufficient power to lift twelve tons.
