INFLUENZA.
RESTRICTIVE MEASURES NOT YET NECESSARY. . Sis cases, described by the Medical Officer of Heaith, as "eo-cailed pneumonic influenza," have been reported since noon on Wednesday. At present there are seven cases receiving treatment at the Cniistchurch Hospital. Of these 5 are convalescent, 1 is in a moderately serious state} and 1 is siowly recovering. "I have rieen these hospital cases," Dr. Telford stated, "and they are-not of tho epidemic type." Kei'erring to the statement appearing m the newspapers, Dr. Telford informed a reporter that in his opinion an undue cry was being raised regarding t-ho type of inhuenza prevalent at present throughout the Dominion. "In other words," m added, "there is some exaggeration. Undue attention focussed on tne subject tends to create panic and unsettles people for their ordinary avocations. It is quite time enough to consider restrictive measures when I see that such are necessary."
POSITION IN DUNEDIN. (PBBSS ASSOCIATION TELEOSiU.) DUNEDIN, July 5. . Injuuenza, mostly of a mild type, is still prevalent in the city, but tho position is not yet showing much improvement. Since June V3rd five pneumonia cases have been reported in the Otago district, and since June 27tn nine cases have been reported from Southland. Iwo deaths have been reported in Dunedin. The attendance at the schools i 3 6eriousiy affected, but so far none has been closeu, except a few in the country districts.
