An interesting reply was given by the Prime Minister yesterday to a deputation which waited on him with reference to the granting of liquor licenses in the King Country. FOREIGN. Prance and the Ruhr. It is said that the situation between Prance and Britain regarding the occupationof the Euhr 13 one of exceeding gravity and delicacy. It is understood that Lord Curzon strongly represented to the French Ambassador that the patience of the British Parliament and nation was nearly exhausted. British Dockers' Strifea Thirty thousand dockers are on strike in British ports, including .14,000 in London where a number of New Zealand ships are held up. Miners' Strike. There was serious rioting at Whitehaven, Cumberland, in connexion with a miners' strike in which 2500 men are involved. Eight thousand miners at Sydney, Nova Scotia, have struck in sympathy with the steel workers. Commonwealth Ships. In moving the second reading of the Commonwealth Shipping Line Bill the Prime Minister said the total net loss on working was £ 2,655,000. It was proposed to write down the !■• value of the ships by more than £8,000,000. The line would bo handod over to a Shipping Board which would sell all the unsuitable ships. Seditious Conspiracy. Art O'Brien, Sean McGrath and four others were found guilty of seditious conspiracy and sentenced to terms of imprisonment. World's Boxing Championsnip. The fight between Dempsey and Gibbons for tho world's heavy-weight boxing championship was witnessed by 20,000 persons. Dempsey received the referee's decision in the fifteenth round. . Double Income-tax. In the House of Commons the Prime Minister ' said the difficult question of double income-tax was being considered by a body of experts at Geneva.
