1 BEEF EASIER. I GOOD STORE SHEEP SALE. I (B7 OUR COMMERCIAL EDITOR.; I Iho only section in which thcTo was an I over-supply yesterday was beef. Tho buying I capacity of tho butchers seems to bo very I much grc-ater for beef than last year, as I pennings of 400 and more meet with as good I 6 clwranco as 300 did twelve months ago 1 Doubtless beef at 3J«t per lb (29s per hun- | dred) is morn attractive buying than wether mutton at 7d, 1 articularly -when there ia not much of the latter about. Yesterday, however, beef failed to maintain tho excellent .prices of tho previous week, but the easing did not exceed 2s per hundred, and tho good beef forward made very satisfactory prices. Fat sbeep sold better for good sorts, of which there wc:o more forward than usual. The few fat lamt-* forward wero of a. >ery indifferent- r.unlity. A particularly gcod rale was evident in the store sheep section. The desire'' manifested in the store section throughout the season fcr.ewea, and latterly for hopß«t3, would seem to indicate that not B few farmers arc abandoning other branches . of production for lamb and rmitton. Decent store steers sold somewhat better than of late. Fat pigs were in shorter supply, and porkers, improved in price. Outside drafts comprised two North Island consignments of 29 ard 26 steers from the Wang'anui and Wairarapa districts respectively, and 35- heifers from an Otago client. Quality was bettei ' than for eome time, there being' a very substantial proportion of good ptation steers. The succession of big vardings was too heavy for the buying capacity to absorb at last week's values.
