PATRIOTIC FUND.
ANNUAL MEETING. The eighth annual meeting of the members of the Canterbury Patriotio Fund was held yesterday. Tho chairman, Mr H. Holland, presided. Thero were also present: —Messrs C. J. Williams, W. E. Leadley, W. Kadcliffo, A. .C. Maxwell, J. C. Prudhoe, F. W. Hobbs, G-. Blackwcll, and It. T. Tosswill, secretary. In moving the adoption.of the report and balance-sheet, which have already been published, the chairman said that it was gratifying to note the very large amount of monoy the fund had been able to distribute to returned soldiers. Nearly a quarter of a million pounds had been paid out altogether. As a Canterbury man, he was proud of the part played by Canterbury in subscribing such a large amount. There was a tendency for tfco Department to pas 3 part of its just burdens over to tho Patriotic Funds, and this would have to be watched. Mr Holland concluded by thanking the executive and staff for their cordial support. Col. H. Stewart, who seconded the motion, stated that he wished to express the keen appreciation of the returned soldiers for the great work done by tho fund. He wished particularly to stress the work done at the Bannerdale Home. . The soldiers were especially gratoful to Mrs George Gould. Mr W. E. Leadley said he hoped the fund would back up the Returned Soldiers' Association in trying to obtain assistance for returned men who were not officially classed as unfit, but were really bo. Mr A. C. Maxwell said that in the original agreement tho Bannerdalo Home was never intended to be a military hospital, but a home for- soldier.;. Mr F. W. Hobbs suggested that tho .'executive 1 should approve of the adI mission of military patients tvhen there was room for them. ; /.
Mr C. J. Williams, said he thought the executive should take no action at present. " .;' " The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Officers were elected as follows :~" Chairman, Mr H. Holland; deputychairman, Mr C. J. Williams) hon. treasurer, Mr H. R. Smith: hon, auditors, Messrs Dougall and Upham; hon. medical adviser, Dr. Fox; delegate to the Advisory Board, Mr J. J. Dougall. The following representatives of 'the fund on the Committee of Management of the Rannerdale Home were appoint-, ed:—Messrs A. C. Maxwell, E. B. Webb, J. C. Prudhoo, and J. H. Blackwell.
