In the Arbitration Court to-day, Albert Edward Dooda, who lost hia rip,'ht hand while employed by Frederick Needham, builder, of P&lmerston North, was awarded £lsl Ss Id compensation. Plaintiff, who is under 21, had been working as a probationary apprentice. The defence raised was J. question of law. The boy had only bean at work a week when tho accident happerifd. Ho was not- an indentured apprentice, so was not entitled to compensation under tho award. Mr Justice Frazer said that the question to consider was whether the lad was nnekilled ajid would have remained unskilled, or whether he 'would have become skilled. Thero was nothing to show in this case that the plaintiff was unlikely to have continued in tha trado.
