NOVELIST'S ROMANCE.
FORTUNE IN OLD AGE. VANCOUVER, May 1. Mr Emerson Hough a leading American novelist and magazine writer, has died at the age of 63 years. He never wrote a story until he was 47 years old. He then deliberately spent a year in writing a novel which was an iastant success. He made a fortune in his old age. His best stories were entitled "The Mississippi Bubble" and "North of Fifty-six." Emerson Hough was born at Newton, la., in 1857. He travelled over the. wildest parts of Western United States of America, exploring the Yellowstone Park during the winter of 1895, when he travelled on ski. The Act of Congress protecting the park buffalo was due to this trip. He wrote 26 books of fiction, and was a frequent contributor of short stories and special articles to American magazines.
