Wilbur as Consul-Gen-eral for the United States in New Zealand, is expected to arrived in the Dominion about the middle of next month. Mr J. E. Moran, vice-consul at Wellington, is in charge till Mr Ingram arrives. Mr Laurie G. Howen, who was for seme time a very popular ottieer in the junior division of .the Wanganui Y.M.C.A., and for the last eighteen months has been director of the young men's division in the Y.M.C.A in Auckland, left last week for Chicago, U.S.A., where he enters the Y.M.C.A. College for further training Mr Geo. A. Baker, of Christchurch, has been appointed sanitary inspector of the borough by the Napier Borough Council. He holds the Royal Sanitary Institute's certificate as inspector of nuisances and of sanitary science as applied to buildings and public works, j Mr Baker also holds plumbing qualifications and has had considerable experi- j ence, which should stand him in good stead in the appointment. | Mr C. M. Croft arrived at Auckland by the Niagara last week to take up his position as Assistant Trade Commissioner for Canada in New Zealand. The growing importance of Canada's overseas trade induced Mr W. A. Beddoe, Canadian Trade Commissioner, to ask for assistance in carrying out his duties in New Zealand, and Mr Croft, who has been sent out from Ottawa, will be attached to the Auckland staff. Mr Evan Parry, formerly Chief Electrical Engineer, New Zealand Public Works Department, and now Engineer-in-Chief of the English Electrical Company, the contractors for the installation of electricity in the Arthur's Pass tunnel, arrived in Christchurch on Tuesday, and was the guest of the Rotary Club at luncheon the same day. Mr Parry leaves to-day for Arthur's Pass and Otira. At a public meeting held at New Brighton on Tuesday evening, on tho motion of the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble), the following resolution was carried: "That this meeting of electors of the Borough of' New Brighton tenders its deep sympathy with Councillor Bellamy in his severe and prolonged illness, and expresses the fervent hope that he may soon be restored to his usual health. That it also expresses its regret that he finds it impossible to offer himself for re-election at the present time. That the electors present, or. behalf of the borough, tender sincere thanks to Councillor Bellamy for the long and devoted services he has rendered to the borough during terms of office aggregating some 21 years, and trust that, in the future, his services may again be at the disposal of the latepayers." , , Mr D F. Wilbur, until recently United States Consul at Wellington, in a letter written prior to his departure from the Dominion last week, tol Mr H.. P Bridge, consular agent toi tne United States, Christchurch, expressed his exceeding regret that he would be unable to visit Chnstchurch as he had, hoped to do, to see Mr Bridge, and personally thank him for his hearty co-operation since Mr Wilbur came to the Dominion. "1 shall always remember," the writer continues, with great pleasure our association in tiT-a service, and sincerely trust that our paths may cross again in the not distant future, either in the United States or New Zealand. I leave Ne w Zealand with great regret, having hoped to re- ! main here for two or three years longer.
