PRAYER-BOOK.

APPROVAL OF CHANGES. BISHOPS NOT UNANIMOUS. (-01 CABLE— PBESS ASSOCIATION— COI-YHIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON, April 17. The Anglican Bishops, at a meeting at Church House, discussed the revision of the Prayer Book. The Archbishop of Canterbury asked tho bishops to give general approval to tho changes which would be merely fulfilling the demand that had been pressing for half a century. Tho Bishop of Chichester (Dr. W. O. Burrows), in moving that general approval be given, said that there would be no legal necessity compelling any clergy or congregations to adopt the change. The Bishop of Truro (Dr. Guy Warman), in seconding the motion, said that he did not pretend that tho measure was perfect. Personally, he disliked the idea of alternative use of the revised book. Altogether it would be an ill day for the Church of England if it allowed itself to be a pale shadow of the Church of Rome. Tho Bishop of Durham (Dr. Henaley Henson) said that he would vote for general approval, but with important reservations. The proposed changes were largely in the nature of concessions to the law-breaking party. The real issue was the assurance of the authority of the Church of England over its own clergy. To spend time framing new Rubrics, which would not be obeyed, was to plough the sands. < The discussion was adjourned.
