CASUALTIES.
♦ The old man Thomas William Paul, who was struck l>y a train at the Antigua street level crossing on Tuesday morning, and who subsequently had an arm amputated, is still lying in the Hospital in a semi-conscious condition. (MtESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.). AUCKLAND, April 18. A fall from a height of 34 feet on to a concrete floor, resulted in the death of Joseph Ratcliffe, employee of Kempthoine Prosser's fertiliser works at AVestfield. He fell off a ladder' while cleaning a chute, si'staining a severe fracture of the base of the skull, a fractured pelvis, and other injuries. He was picked up unconscious and died three hoars later. The deceased was a'jed forty years; he leaves a wife and 1 live children.
