COUNTY COUNCILS.

MOUNT HERBERT. The monthlv meeting of the Mt. Herbert County Council was hold in t&.> Council Chambers, Pura-u. Present—Crs. A. P.. "Wiiiuois (chairman). J- A. Ge.lcty, H. Jackecu, R. A. Aiuur.-cm, and Reg. Gobble. A demitaiion consisting of Messrs A. TV Dobson* K. M:\cai tiioy, and J. S. Hawkcs, from the Canterbury Automobile* Association, waited on the Council with reference to the proposed deviation of the Dyer's Pass load on the Govevr.or's Ba-v side, Mr Dobson submitted' a plan of tie proposed deviation, being tho some line as proposed by th." Council, and fully o v pl:uned tho work. I'he estimated cost was £ISOO. Tho Council favourably considered tho proposal, and offered a quota towards tho work if tho Auioniolilo Association would giro a. contribution also. It was agreed that if n fair subsidy were obtained from the Publio VToTks Department, as contributed on tho other side<'of the pass,'the work would bo started at an o-aaly date. Tho deputation ivlsj drew tho Council's fttteivion to tho sharp bend lending from Governor's Bay, and suggested that ft working "bee" from the Association, assisted by tie Council's workmen, and others, meet at the spot at an early date and carry out the work.

Tho Council readily agreed to the suggestion, and promised to give any assistance that misrht be required. Tho ordinary meeting of the Cheviot County Counoil was held on Saturday, tha ' 14th of April. Presenfr-Counoillort T. Stevenson (chairman), A. D. Anderson, S» Douglas, W. L. Foster, J. H. Hiatt, J. Paton, and G-. L. Rutherford, Oorxespondence was received from. Mr S. Andrew, of the North Canterbury Board, relative to the matter ofproviding a Cottage . Hospital at Cheviot. The Counoil went deeply into the matter, but arrived at . an opinion that an ambulance stationed at Cheviot or some other suitable centre, so flat patients could be quickly transferred! to Chriatchurch, would be of more servioe. The New Zealand Farmers' Union wrota asking for suggestions as to the best means of overcoming the rabbit pest and noxious weeds in river lan<s in North Canterbury. Members were of the unanimous opinion that more striot supervision and attention must be given to the matter.
