MEETING OF COUNCIL. A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Automobile Association was held last night, Mr A. Dudley Dobson presiding. At the request of the Returned Soldiers' Association it was decided to supply a number of cars for the conveyance of disabled soldiers in 'Ji'kO procession to tne memorial service on --inzae Day. ivir it. jtlacartney said that in view ,of the coming municipal elections ho tuought tUe time was opportune lor the association to ask that their voice should be heard in the framing of the by-laws of the city and in the formation of roads. The association, as an independent body, should taiie its part in o\'iering suggestions as to the formation of streets, and the alteration of streets. Tne Government had reeognised the principlo by allowing the association to nominate >a representative for the Main Highways .board. The chairman said there was a representative on the council's by-Jaws committee, but apparently he had never been called on. Mr E. W. Johnstone said the council apparently approved of the principle but uid not carry it into practice. The question of the improvement of street direction signs was referred tp the roads committee.
