HUMANITARIANISM.
THE LOVE FOR CHILDREN
If nobody cared —if orphaned and deserted ciiiidi-eii were allowed to grow wild, mentally and physically, like an untrained vine—it would not be long before tiiis community would resemoie a neglected orchard overrun by weeds, and mentally cluttered by the perverted brains that develop from neglected childhood. Apart from the great "humanitarian work done by St. Saviour's Orphanages, this rendering of valuable services to the community by developing an appreciation of citizenship in deserted and orphaned children is in itself an important reason whyl everybody should support the present campaign for special building funds. While we do not witness in the streets of this country the fearful products of neglected childhood so common overseas, it must not be thought for one moment that this Dominion has no quota of deserted and orphaned children. To the contrary, Orphanages are taxed to overflowing, and additional buildings are urgently needed to accommodate the children awaiting admission. Surely no heart is so deadened, and no purse so tightly tied, that it will not respond to this call for help now being made by St. Saviour's Orphanages on behalf of these destitute children. That the call is being recognised all over Canterbury is emphatically shown'by the receipts for the first two days. There is no need for any reader of this paper to wait for a collector to call, as there are many convenient places whero. donations are received —the tent on the Cathedral grounds in the Square is within everybody's reach, all the newspaper offices receive contributions, and a number of prominent business firms also do the same, or subscriptions may be posted to the secretary, St. Saviour's Orphanages, Christchurnh. Dpn't allow procrastination _ to delajy your donation, let generosity dominate on behnlf of this most noble charity for little children —and send in your subscription to-day. ' 6
