SATURDAY'S BIG CARNIVAL
PROGRAMME OF EVENTS. Final arrangements are now being completed for the big wild west oarni.al of the Canterbury A. and P. Association, to ba held at the Show Grounds, Addington, nest Saturday. This carnival, whioh is being run by the Canterbury A. and P. Association with the assistance, of members ol the Commercial Travellers and VV artfoousemen's Association, is in aid ol the A. ana P. -Asso ciation/s re-bui.ding fund, and lias no connexion whatever with any Wild West siio.v advertised last year. Proceedings wiil commence on Saturday by tho marshalling of a proc.ssion at Vi toria square at 10.30 a.m. This procession whio l will wend its way to tie Show Grounds, arriving there at 11.36 a.m., will- dep ct t.ia transport history of Canterbury. It will bo led by tho Highland Pipe Band, after which, will como a swagger a few o:d identities. Stock men on horseback will follow and they will be succeeded by the following:—Bullock waggon, Sydney dray, bo.c trap, four-wheel buggy, Hansom cab, hig.r Velocipede, modern bicycle, .horse tram-car, old-fashioned motor-car, modern motor limousine, Pantechnicon, and electric trail of the very latest design.
The fun at the Show Grounds will commence at 11.30 a.m. with pony competitions, calf riding, stockmen's race, and a fla; race on horseback. At 1.45 p.m. will commence the big football match between th; two leading senior Rugby team"—MaristJ and Ljnwood—and it should be interestin ; enough to thrill even the most bias? of football fans. There will a'.so be he'd a draught horse trot, in which 15 stone riders will struggle to reach the winning t«pe, if they don't break their ste-d3' backs first. The. buck-jumping competitions, with the'r many thrills will also tak> place at this period, and they will be succeeded b- bullock riding competitions, of wlr'ch . possibly the most interesting will fie div plays given by "Cowboy women" riders. At 2 p.m. will be held tie Highland and othedancing, and during the day tbe big stoc't drive will also take place. Post entries will *e received for all the events. Suitable music will be pi-ovid'd durin? the day by Derry's Band. _ There will be special tram services and railway excursion fares. Refreshment and luncheon booths w;ll be on tho grounds. The admission cßarged is low —only Is for adults and Ed for children.
