Mr C S Thomas was re-elected president of the Canterbury Collego Athletic Club at its annual meeting last evening. Mr G. G. Lockwood paid a tribute to Mr Thomas's services to tlw club.
Captain George Ihomson, bourmaster at D'unedin, left there by the express yesterday for Wellington, where he joins the Paparou, for London Captain Thomson is revisiting the UW Country after an absence of forty years. A motion of sympathy with Mr H. S. S. Kyle and family m their recent exceedingly sad loss, was passed at. .a meeting of the General Committee or the Canterbury A. and P. Association held just prior .to the annual meeting of the Association last night. Mr H Maurice Peacock, L.D.S., R.C.S. (En S -), **o twelve months been with the Health Department in Wellington helping to train the nurses under the Government dental scheme, has purchased "the practise of Mr Kemble Welch, Masterton, Prior to coming to • the Health Department in New Zealand, Mr Peacock was practising in London. In the early period of the war lie was attached to military hosoitals (parts of the time to Woodcote Park Hospital. Surrey, which had a division for New Zealand-et-B). He then enlisted as a private in the Inns of Court O.T.C There was a. very large gathering at the Y.M.0.A., Timaru, layt night, of members of the Foresters' Lodge, to make a presentation and say farewell to Bro. Thomas Hams, who is retiring from the position of, secretory of the Timaru Lodge. Bro. Harris has been connected with Forestry for 40 years, and has been secretary for 25 years. Representatives were present from Waimate, Morven, iind St. Andrews. Several officers spoke most' eulogistically of Bro. Harris's services. His Work had been of the utmost value to Forestry in South Canterbury, find nlthough nearing the age of 80, he still retained his wonderful mental equipment. Bro. Harris was the recipient of several presentations. ■ Mr W. H. Gould, who has been appointed principal of the Kelbuin-(Wel-lington) Training College in succession to Professor J. S. Tennant, is 4(3 years of age, and possesses high qualifications for the position. He holds the teachers' A certificate, and the SI.A. degree, having gained first-class honours in economics. He has had wide experience as an educationist, including 22 years in the primary schools, where he served, in all capacities from pupil teacher to headmaster; two years as Director of Education m Tonga; two years as inspector of schools; and about four years as vice-prineipal at the Teachers' Ti'flihing College at Kelburn, and assistant lecturer in education at Victoria Universitv College.
in accordance with, old custom, the new members of College House, each year entertain the. old members at a, * rashers' supper. The 1923" function, took pine© last evening, and proved one ot the most enjoyable of tlie series. The toast list was as follows:—"The H6u«e" (Mr H. J. Williams—Mr P. T. Oox), ''Old Members" (Mr J. Earl—Messrs M. J. Bums and A. J. Harrop), "The Freshers" (Mr E. A. Osmers—Slr C. 11. Dart). Songs were sang by Messrs W. B. Harris. It, J. Fowler, W. M. Te Awarau, M. J. BunuS, and A. B. Hobhs. In responding to the toast of "The House." Mr P. T. Cox, the senior student, .stressed the fact that College House was at present in a, critical stage of its development, and stated that a progressive policy on the part of the Board of Governors was imperative.
Mr C. E. Christensen, who has been chief masseur at the Government bathhouse at RotorUa for tlie past three years, has received notice of his appointment to Te Arona. The "Botorua Chronicle" says: Capable, painstaking and of invincible good temper, Mr Christensen was resnected for his talent and loved for nis manv kindly quahties. On Saturday, the "staff of the bath-house gathered to bid him farewell. Dr.. Duncan, medical superintendent, paid an eloquent tribute to his capacity, and though regretting his departure, congratulated Aim upon his promotion. On behalf of himself and fellow-workers, Dr. Duncan handed him a cheque, to be expended in an easy chair. The speaKer hoped that their departing comrade would learn to smoke, and in years to come, with his feet on the mantelpiece, would think kindly of his old friends.
