SUPER-PRIMARY EDUCATION.
NEW SOUTH WALES SCHEME.
(M.GSS OUS OWS CORHESPONDEXT.) SYDNEY, March 1. A new scheme of super-primary education has been originated in Now South Wales. Tlic new proposals are intended to fit each individual pupil for tho position intended to be taken up at-the- close of the school days. 'Hie curriculum of tho schools in New South Wales country districts under the old sy.'.tom contained much unnecessary matter. Tilings outside the realm of u child's environnunt or experience were taught, whereas from more common standards, in which a pupil lias a natural interest, a greater development of the intellect can I* ol>taincd. It is pointed out that pupils in country districts should be taught in terms of t\x country, and not, as is frequently the case, in tonus cf the city, fi-om which in the b?st interests of tho country it is advisable to keep them on the completion of their school training. It is also pointed out that citv pupils should lie taught in terms of the country, so that they may learn of the attractions of country life end become interested in tho work of the primary producer. Under thd new system, pupils will be taken each morning for regular school subjects, and the afternoon will be devoted to vocational training. The system will later be extended. The primary intention of the new pyllabus _is to cultivate :i tasto for country life instead of city life, and to endeavour to increase the attractiveness of the country so that when school is over boys and girls will take up the citizenship of rural districts, and engage in those pursuits for which, by training and inclination, they are best fitted.
