PENINSULA POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. At the monthly meeting of the Peninsula Power Board there were present—Messrs J. It. Thacker (chairman), Geo. Armstrong, W. F. Parkinson, J. E. Fleming, J. D. Brace, J. R. Templin (consulting engineer), and F. Lewthwaite (resident engineer). An apology was received for the absence of Mr J. V. Chapman, on account of illness. In answer to questions, the resident engineer said that there were a number of minor defects in house connexions in Aknroa, and in some cases the leads were on tho wrong side,..which would necessitate rewiring. As a result of the extraordinarily heavy rain towards the end of January, somo of the angle-poles betweo* Okaln's and Little Stoney Bays, and at Kaituna had given, and the lines had had to be pulled up and tightened. With respect to damage to overhead wires done by threshing machine elevators, . the minimum height for the Board was 18 feet. All their lines were above this; so that the Board could lawfully recover the amount of such damage. With regard to the position in Akaroa Borough now that the Board had taken the municipal plant over,. Mr Templin stated that the quotations for lamps for the town did not include wharf lighting. It would be rather difficult to assess the .cost. The prices, he considered, were very reasonable If the borough were to inatal only 20 lamps, the Board would still have to reticulate the .whole area, and the resultant cost, therefore, would be higher. He thought 00 lamps at £3 6s for an all-night .service would be the best business proposition for the borough. It would be well for the Board to give as much encouragement as possible to the use of electric cooking, and heating. If it were possible to. give concessions on the "off-load" periods, this should certainly be done. .It was a wise policy to grant concessions as the Board could see its way to do so. ' Members' of the Board were, probably aware that in some places consumers were using electrio cook-' ing and heating appliances during restricted hours". It would be as well to make it public at once that the Board was taking steps to see that such offenders were''penalised.
