Trtfrfmyiiwg OommtttM. The (raarterty meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee was held at the' Oonrtbouae yesterday. Mr H. T. Wlddovrson, 8.M., presided, and there war*) present— Messrs 8. W. Mitohell, 0. Bradley. P. Knights, and J. Richardson. James Smith VUI, licensee of the Madeira Hotel. Akaroa, applied far a tranaf»r of the license of this hotel to John Gilford Nee. Mr D. Hall represented both parties. The application was granted. The chairman satd that as Continuance , had bean carried at the last general election, the committee, *s mentioned at the previous meeting, wished to remind notelkeopexs that where electric light vnw available they would have to have it Installed In all the rooms of their hotels before the: next annual meeting In June. The chairman said that this was tho hurt meeting of the committee that would be attended bv their very old and rospectea member, Mr S. W. Mitchell. Mr Mitchell had. served on the commlttoo for the long period of BS yearsS Ho had earned the respect ot his colleagues on tho committee, and had served the district well and honourably. ' " Mr V. Knights, In endorsing the chairman's remarks, said that during his long , , term Mr Mitchell had rendered valuable service to the committee. On .several occasions he had acted as ohalrtr-an with credit to himself as well as to the committee,, and' on behalf of the committee he wished to express its gretltudo and appreciation of Jlr Mitchell's service*. In replying, Mi Mitchell said he could assnre tho committee that It hurt him \ery> much to sever his connexion with it. He had endeavoured to do his duty. T.W.O.A. The T.W.O.A. Committee, Ladles and Olub Girls gave a delightful little party on Monday evening, on the occasion of the opening of the winter programme (lames and * dancing were Indulged In, and a solo was' siven by Miss Ella Thurlow. A dainty supper was served by the Litdias' Committee. It is hoped that this coming, season will be aB evontfu! as tho past .cue, and that more girls will flnil tholr way to the clubs to help to sharo tho happy liours spent during the winter evenings. Yachting. A sailing race was held last evening between the Bettimi (K h'ot:; Nikau (A. Sinclair), and Mylndy (L. Blnolalr) fo* a cup, to be known as the Tiki Oup,- proseated by Mr Pc.'V Slsu'.iir I'iHtinii, on scratch, won comfortnbly, and the other two, each on eix minutes, finished close upj < Nikau leading.
