ASSOCIATION V. COUNCIL. (PUSSS ASSOCIATION TILEGHA}£.) DUNEDIiN, March 6. The dispute between the Utago Boxing Association and the New Zealand Boxing Council on tho question of who won the fight between Paul McQuairie' (Invercargiil) and Brian MoUleary (Cnristchurch), for tuo heavyweight championship of New Zealand, was further discussed to-night by tho Otago Association. The fight took place on June 26th last, and in the eleventh round the master of ceremonies .announced that McQuarrie had hurt his hand). Some confusion ensued, and tho minute interval was exceeded. The referee then ordered the fight to go on, and in th 3 thirteenth round McCleary was knocked out, and the referee awarded the fight to Mc•Quarrie. McCleary append to the Association against tho decision, but the appeal was dismissed. McCleary tlien appealed to the Boxing Council, which declared the fight no contest, and ordered that the prize-money ba equally divided. It was decided to-night to forward copies of the letters to affiliated associations. A covering letter, which was approved, pointed out, inter alia, that it would be a calamity to tho sport if the Council or any future Council had it in its power to overrido a referee's decison. The Association claimed that the Council had no jurisdiction to interfere with the referee's decision. A NELSON RESOLUTION. (PSESS ASSOCIATION TELEG3AJI.) NELSON, March 6. The Kelson Boxing and Pastimes Association passed a resolution drawing the lN'ew Zealand Boxing Council's attention to the Magistrate's finding at the inquest on Tapp, where is was stated that the present rule 3 and regulations did not give sufficient protection to boxers in the rjng, and that steps should bo taken to remove the danger. In some papers the boxing secretary appears as stating in evidence that tho canvas matting was remored at the express request of deceased. The message, as sent out from NelEon, was that the cauvoa matting was over the boards, and the match was arranged at the express request oi the deceased.
