BUD SELECTION WORK.
Some interesting information was given yesterday by Mr Creo. A. Green, hon. secretary of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, as to the work in progress. The principal activity at present is being carried out by the Tevioi branch at Roxburgh, although in a lesser degree the work is goins or: in Canterbury, Haivke's Bay and Auckland. Mr Green has just returned from Roxburgh, where ho states the committee is very keen. .New and improved varieties of apricots are under test, and- iant month some 1-5,000 buds were selected and forwarded for propagation to tha leading fruit tree nurserymen of the Dominion. This makes some 25,000 buds selected from approved types of the best varieties of apricots in the last two seasons. A record that one small district commiti™ need not be ashamed of. The work will spread out, and it ia hoped that within a short while all the piopiigatin.fr material for all classes of fruit will' be selected by the committees of the Institute in various' districts fron' their very best stocks only: selected with as much care as is now the case with prize stock.
