N.S.W. BOWLERS.
YESTERDAY'S PLAY. The visiting New South Wales bowlers had yesterday morning free. In I the afternoon they met a team repre- | aenting the Canterbury Centre, on the j Opawa green, in a four-rink friendly I contest. In addition to this, two mixed ) rinks, comprising Christchurch and 1 New South Wales players, were conj tested. The green was in first-clas3 | condition, and had materially benefit- [ ted from a heavy watering overnight. 'i It was playing very keenly, and was I about as fast as one could wish. A 1 slight breeze affected play to some exj tent, but a noticeable feature of the j game was the number of short heads. ! Prom the commencement of the j game, the Australians made sure of ) their victory. On the sixth head thev j had compiled thirty-four points to Canterbury's fourteen, and they maintained their lead practically throughout, eventually winning by three rinks (119 points) to one (78 points). Barlow's rink was the only successful Canterbury side. Kershaw (22) received a sound drubbing at the hands of Wall, tka New South Wales player concluding the game with a total of 42 to his credit. Eudd (28) secured a substantial victory over Horton (14), as did Spenee (29) in his game with Jackson (17). Mr E. C. Chegwin, president of the Centre, in extending a he:irty welcome to the visitors, stated that that was the third occasion upon which he had had the pleasure of addressing them. During their two previous matches they had suffered defeat, and it was now up to them to record a win. He wished them every success in tho eourso of their afternoon's play. Mr E. Wilson, president of the Opawa Club, expressed a hope that the New South Wales bowlers would enjoy their visit to the Opawa green. If they did manage to emerge the victors of the afternoon's contest, they would have earned their laurels, because their players were of a standard which could not bo disregarded. Mr J. Wall, replying on behalf of the visitors, thanked both the Centre and tho Opawa Club for their kindness. He' expressed a hope that his team would win, but if they did not, he said, they would not be down-hearted. The following are the results— N.S.W. O. L. Aniott, J. Nioholas, W. W. Morris, J.
