CASUALTIES.
An inquest concerning the- sudden death of Harriet Elizabeth Welburn, aged 77 years, was held at Ohoka yesterday afternoon, before Mr L. B. Evans, acting Coroner, and a jurv of four. After hearing the evidence of Dr. M. Ramsay, a verdict was returned that death was due to cardiac failure.
(lEESS ASSOCIATION TELEGaAV.) AUCKLAND, January 18. A Maori lad named Hina' Whitu, aged 17 years, was drowned at Kitoiha, near Huntly, while -endevouring to save another boy named Hori Tetahu, aged eight, who was also drowned. Tetahu was in a canoe with three others crossing the Waikato River when it capsized. Whitu went to the rescue, but lost his life. PAHIATUA, January 18. Ernest John Meade, a lorry driver, awed about 45, married, was found this morning hanging from a beam in a store-room adjacent to the stables where lie was employed.
