IMPOSTOR SENT TO GAOL.
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAH.) WELLINGTON, January 5. A young man named Archibald Andrew Charles Scott, with many aliases, including the names of four detectives and of two doctors, appeared before Mi' Hunt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day, on fourteen charges of the theft of clothing and jewellery, false pretences, and assuming the designation of a police officer. Accused pleaded guilty to all counts. A detective explained that the accused had come out of the reformatory at Invercargill on November 18. He arrived on November 23, and obtained board and lodging at several seaside places under false pretences. Having secured the confidence of his fellow lodgers, etc., he stole movable; goods and decamped. He assumed the designation of police officers and doctors to aid him in his plans of obtaining the confidence of people. He was sentenced to six months hard labour, to be followed by a period of reformative detention for two years.
