DOMINION'S STANDING IN ENGLAND.
MB MASSEY INSPIRES CONFIDENCE. Writing from London to a Wellington gentleman, Mr J. S. Jessep, vice-chair-man of the Meat Producers' Board, writes: — There is one thing which, has facilitated my work amongst business men here, and that is the general standing of New Zealand. New Zealand's name stands very high in financial circles, and the reputation of our Prime Minister, Mr Massey, is second to none. Yesterday I dined in the City.with a group of financiers, some of the biggest men in London. In general conversation, one of them remarked on the fact that New Zealand's 5 per cent, loan stood at 102.6, whereas British 5 per cent. War Bonds were at par. I asked bow he accounted for it, and he laughingly said that there was no accounting for it, except that New Zealand stocks are popular. He further added: "Your Prime Minister inspires oonfidenoe, he can get anything he asks in the City." This, coming from a man whose name stands out in financial circles here, makes rather good hearing for a New Zealander. Sir James Allen, as High Commissioner, unquestionably well upholds the name and standing of Dominion also.
