_4- »_ ' YOUNG MAN PEAVH.Y PINED. A young man, Robert Vaughari Venables, was called upon in the Magis-' trate's Courjb at Wellington, last week, to explain why he had held himself out as a land agent, without being "the holder of a license under the Act. Mr E. Page, S.M., was on the Bench. Mr J. S. Kanna, who represented'the defendant, entered a plea of guilty. Senior-Detective Lowis said that the defendant had recently applied! license under the' Land Agents Act. In such cases the police made enquiries, and ' while .so engaged in connexion with the application under review Detective Nuttall had visited ttoq defendant's office. There he saw displayed a notice which indicated that defendant was already holding out as a ■ land "agent. Venables admitted that he ha 4 advertised certain properties, and had been carrying on business for about a month. '"His application for a. license is still under* review," added' Mr lewra. Mr Hnnna said that after mating hi 3 application on October 21st, Venables bad purchased stationery and business cards in order that he might be m readiness for business when the license was granted. At.the end of November he was still waiting. He had then taken it upon himself to put up a "little sign." There had been no attempt at concealment, <uid it was his enthusiasm and initiative to enter business which had really been responsible for the breach, of the Act. ' . His Worship: There was no concealment, as the essence of the charge is holding forth- in public The Act is Bpccific, and permits! only licensed people to carry on business. Defendant will bo fined £2O and costs.""
