CHURCH OF ENGLAND HOSPITAL.

A meetng of the Christmas Market stallholders and others was he'd at College House on Thursday afternoon. Canon-Wilford reported that the executive of the Hcspital had met the day be to re arid spent a considerable time in drawing up articles of association, The name of the corporation was to be the Church of England Hospital Incorporated, and its members would inc.ude some of the best business men in the Dominion. TJhe -promoters from the start had determined that the hospital business should be run on the most up-to-date lines, and no pains were being spared to make sure of this. It was being managed by men devoted to the Church of England, but tho extra title of "unofficial" given to it by those outside the movement was a true description of its work. Nothing was dona without tho approval and sanction of the Archbishop, but the official committee of the diocese had not been a. ked to shoulder any burdens. Although the question of site had not been settled, all anxiety concerning it had now gone. The difficulty was no longer to find a. section, but to decide which of several should be bought. The executive asked the meeting to be. very patient with thom. Tliey did not want to make a mistake in this important' matter. They wr.nted time to investigate particulars of othSr site; which li.:ul just come to hand. A message was also received from the same body of men, congratulating the workers upon tho success of the Christmas Market at a time when many other fetes had failed to realise the sums which they had -started out to make. The Christmas Market workers had taken a'l they had' looked for and half as much again. Cliristchurcii people had clearly shown that they wanted the Hospital. The meeting then arranged a programme for next year. A garden party and sale of work is to be held at College House on Saturday, February 10th, and will be in the hands of the following committeeMesitames G. Andrews, McFarlane, Reid, Fleming, Griffiths, Webley, and Miss Bloxam. A further committee was set up to organise something for Easter, and arrangements were made for a monster market later in the year. The Box Committee gave a good' report of their work. The box monev as it comes in is put into the Savings i Hank. A. cardboard l box just received contained 284 coins. Prizes for various competitions were awarded to: M. Rennel, a- Christmas cake; Mr J. B. Wilsnn, basket of homemade sweets; Miss Ethel Smith, doll; Mr Cross, screen; Mrs H. Bel, cushion; Mr J. Travers, cane basket; Mrs Merry Chines® vase. • ' The proceeds of the Christmas Mar- | ket have been deposited with a building society at 4. per cent, on call. Tho money publ'.shed in "The Press" as unaccounted for belonged to the Riccarton stall, which now stands at £242 Gs Id, and the flower stall, the takings of which were £42 13s sd'.
