Tho interview was copied in full in the Ptrth papers, and the Premier said numerous cuttings had reached him from New Zealand. "It is quite evident that the "Wellingtonian referred to has never seen Peijih," said Sir James Mitchell. "I\ r o man who cams to our city could libel oujr young women in the way this man has. It is just' a " common, despicable lie to say that young women in evening dress are to be' seen tipsy in Perth'. The whole article is beneath contempt; there is not a vestigs of truth in it. If ,we could only get the name of the man responsible ior these lying statements, I am sure we have enough young men here to give him a very lively time if ever he sets foot in Perth.'' * . Tho Mayor of Perth (Mr TV. ,F. Lathlain), in a letter to the Australian Club, says: "The better way of dealing with suclj obviously absurd statements as that contained in tho article under review is to take no notice cf them."
