LYTTELTON REGATTA.

The necessary arrangements in connexion with the Lyttelton Regatta on Boxing Day are now practically complete. Early on Tuesday morning a large Aumbe,r of men wll be employed In laying out the course for the rowing and other aquatic contests, and the first item oit" the programme will commence at 10.30. From that hour events will continue in quick suc--1 cession until 5 p.m. The Wellington oarsmen arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning; They are expected to show up prominently at "the Regatta, as thoy are the crews selected to compote at the Champion Regatta at Bluff on New Year's Day.. The swimming carnival to be held in the dock should attract thousands of spectators in view Pof the largo entries that have been received. The leading swimmers in Canterbury will compote. Two novelty .events jure-included in. the programme for swimmers, an obstacle race and a greasy pol 6 competition, which should provide mu£h amusemont. The 440 yds championship and 880 yds intermediate championship will- ""be decided during the afternoon. There will be two yacht races and two motor-boat events, as well as a ships' boat j-ace. In this event four boat crews 'from R.M.S. lonic vvill compete. The prize-list for the land-sports is. an attractive one. A band has-been engaged" to enliven these proceedings, which will be held in London Bfcreet. The fivo-masted schooner H. K. Hall will be the flagship. The event in which most interest will be taken is the-exhibition of parachuting which ;tlie committee has arranged to be provded by Captain .Euan Dickson and Mr Albert _E. Eastwood.
