LOCAL AND GENERAL. The General Election. Some- seats arc still in doubt. The Licensing Poll figures (exclusive ot absentee votes) give a majority oi over 16,000 against Prohibition. The Shipping Trouble. At "Wellington yesterday two seaman were fined £2 each for taking pari in- an illegal strike. Leave to appeal was granted. Anniversary Day. A programme for the- observance, nest Saturday, of Anniversary Day has been adopted. The question oi suitably observing Anniversary I>ay in the future is to be reported upon bv tho committee- set up to carry out the programme for this year's lunctione. FOREIGN. Greek Debacle in Asia Minor. The question of the correspondence which passed between Lord Curzou and the J.ito M. Gc-urnaris, exPremier of Greece, regarding the situation in Asia Minor at the beginning of the year, was raised' in Parliament. Lord Birkenhead, Mr Lloyd George, and Mr Chamberlain said the correspondence had not been submitted to Cabinet. Mr Bonar Law said the Foreign Office reported that it had been so circulated. Ulster and Free State. Tho Ukter Parliament unanimously decided to contract out of the Free' State. Free State M,F. Murdered. Messrs Hale members of the Free State Parliament, were shot in a Dublin street by rebels, who escaped. The former died on reaching hospital. Prohibition in U.S.A. The annual report of the AttorneyGeneral of the United States points out that the enforcement of Prohibition has become one oi the major problems of the Government. It is ' clogging the work of the Courts and involving tho United States in a maze of international difficultiei. British Labour M.P.'s. Many of the new Labour members of tEe House of Commons are finding that they cannot make ende meet on their' allowance of £4.00 a year.
