STORE CATTLE IN BRITAIN.
QUESTION .OF QUARANTINE. (By Cable—Pieas Association—Copyright.) (Australian, and N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received December Bth, 8.36 p.m.) LONDON, December 7. In the House of Commons, Sir Robert Sanders, Minister of Agriculture, moved the second reading of the Importation of Animals Bill, removing the embargo against Canadian cattle. Mr Harbison, the only Nationalist member from Ulster, moved the rejection of the Bill, on the ground that ii insisted on the quarantine Satentjten of Irish-cattle as well as Canadian, thus compromising free trade between Ireland and England, which was one of the fundamental principles of the recent treaty. Mr Charles Craig and Mr T. P. O'Connor took a similar view. Mr E. 6. Pretyman, supporting the Bill, said the committee -which enquired into the recent outbreak of foot and mouth disease intended to recommend that imported cattle might be marketed on the day of landing, but must then be detained for six days. The rejection motion was defeated by 379 votes to 27.
