At Norfolk, Virginia, two officers and four privates were killed when a pursuit plane piloted by Major Greatheart collided with a 'Martin bomber piloted by Captain Doyle in a crash 300 feet above. Langley flying field. Three men were killed by the fall, and the others were burned to death. Doyle, with four men, was leading a formation of five bombers just taking' off when Greatheart's plane headed into the group. It is believed his steering, gear went wrong. Four of the bombers averted . collisions by suddenly mounting, but the fifth met the plane head on, both machines crashing in' flames.
