. —-—» CADET TOURNAMENT. The finals of - the boxing contest between the cadet teams from Suinner and Now Brighton were contested at Rc-dclifia last night in the presence of an excellent audience. The results were as follow®: Under Bst—J. Sutherland (Sumner) 7st 12lb, lost to J. Merritt dst. Merrilt led in the first two rounds but was hard pressed in the third, in which he failed vo use his right to advantage. Sutherland showed more science tnan his opponent. Under 9st—iS. Neilton (Sumner) Bst 81b beat K. Griffin (New Brighton) Bst 111b. 'lbis bout proved very wuling all through. Griffin had the advantage of reach, but Neilscm's body punches were weii-placed and effective. Under lOst—C. Dacre (Sumner) 9st 3lb lost to L. Gee (New Brighton). Thi3 was perhaps the most even bout of the evening. Though the first two rounds appeared to bo in Dacre's favour, he failed to take advantage of the opportunity presented by his opponent's condition. Gee picked up in the third round and though 'from the spectators' poin tof view, -the Sumner 113*11 won, the decision went in favour of Gee, both being exhausted. Under list—L. Wood (Sumner) lOst 21b drew with A. Gee (New Brighton) lOat 21b. This was a ding-dong .go of tli- windmill type, Woods clearjpg from the ropea \v..l on several occasions.. In the first round, Woods took the oount to nine. This splendid exhibit tion of "put and take" ended in a draw. Under lOst—A. C. Pragnell 'Sumner) lost to A. Gibb (New Brighton) 9st 81b. This proved the most scientific bout of the contest. Although Pragnell was at a distinct disadvantage as to height and reach, on several occasions he got in gr.cti leits on his opponent's face. In tho last round, Pragnell twice took the count to nine, but he tooik his gnielling well and' conceded a decisis* win to Gibb.
