DURHAM STREET CHOIR.

Stainer's cantata, "Daughter of Jairus, not so well known as his "Crucifixion,". but a composition of great beauty and worth, was sung by the choir in the Durham street Methodist Church on Saturday night before A large congregation. Tho soloists were Mis» M. Twose (soprano), Mr H. Blakeloy (tenor), and Mr W. J. Spratt (bass), and these three with the members of the choir were responsible for a very stately rendering of the music. After the cantata was sung, a short programme, largely of sacred items, followed. Mrß Ernest Firth and Mr Hudson presented a scena from the oratorio "Samson," .which included the contralto solo "Return O Lord of Hosts," and the tenor solo "Total Eclipse " Mrs Firth and Mr W. J. Spratt sang the duet. "The "Day is Done," and Mt Ernest Firth, F.R.C.0., playod a "Pastorale" by Guilmant. Mr Geo. Stephens, nn elocutionist irom Manchester, recited "Mary. Queen of Scots."
