The Emperor Huang Tung and the Princess Kuo Chia were married today. Seated on the dragon bed in the palace of the Forbidden City early this morning the seventeen-year-old Emperor and his fifteen-year-old bride exchanged golden cups solemnising their marriage. The simple ceremony was preceded by an elaborate ritual', the feasting continuing for a week. Before dawn a long procession took th£ bride from her father's house to the palace, thousands of people lining the streets. Two thousand mandarins and foreign guests witnessed the ceremony. The Empress entered the palace never to leave it again unless the monarchy is restored.
