The Anti-Lynehing Bill was lost, the Southern Democrats winning their filibuster fight against the measure, llepublicans, consulting among themselves, decided to withdraw the measure, which had been supported by Churches and social reform organisations throughout the country. The negro organisations spent thousands of dollars in an advertising attempt to gain support for the measure. It is understood that Mr Harding, seeing the hopelessness of gaining a passage for the law, «md fearing at the same time the defeat of the Ships Subsidy Bill, ordered withdrawal of the /Bill in order to give the (Shipt Bill an opportunity to pass.
