DEGREE IN PHARMACY. + THE LONDON UNIVERSITY. The possibility of a new degree sucfl *s Bachelor of Pharmacy being conferr--d by the University of London was mentioned by Dr. H. J. Waring, ViceJhanoellor of the University, when he delivered the address at the opening of the 81st session of the School of Pharmacy at the headquarters of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Dr. Waring said he had long held, ifiat the vocation of pharmacy had not j occupied the position in the technical vocation of which it was worthy. That was partiy due to the fact that in the j past the amount of general education I which had been exacted from a phar- i maceutical student in his preliminary i examination was not sufficient. He = urged that the same standard should j be exacted from such students as was j demanded from those entering other i technical vocations, such aa industrial j chemistry, engineering, medicine and ! dentistry. " j It had been suggested, the doctor i said, that a einser connexion with the : University of London on the part of ! the Pharmaceutical Society y.-ouid have i a very beneficial effect on pliarmaeenh- • ca] chemistry and pharmacy, . "1 csn assure you,"' he added, "that : if the Pharmaceutical Society bring for- i ward a concrete scheme iu I ask that either pharmaceutical chemis- ; try should be made the chief subject ' for a science decree, or that a new i degree, such a?. Bachelor of Pharmacr, : should be instituted, the University will ■ explore the entire question and trv to ; meet you in every way, provided that > whatever is done is for the purpose of i science, the good of the nation, and the I improvement of the vocation and char- i maceutical chemists and pharmaefsts. j
