—_— SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTIONS ANNOUNCED. (By Association—Copjrririri.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, December 1. ; . The overseas shipping companies have announced substantial reductions in the passenger rates between ..Australian and New Zealand ports and Europe. The rates by the mail steamers were: Firetclass £l3O to £l7O. The'new rate will be £ll4 to £134. The second-class rates were £105..t0 £l2O. The new rate will be £B6 to"£9o. .'"' ~
The Union .Steam Ship Company, agents for the Orient Line of Bteamers, state that' substantial .reductions in first and second-class fares to the Old Country have been made. These reductions will 'come into force immediately. The old rates were quoted as follows:—First-class £134 to £174 single and £304 return; second-class £lO9 to £124 single, and £227 return; whilst the new rates are, first-class £llß to £l3B single, and from £20740 £242 return; second-class £7B to £B2 single, and from £137 to £144 return. Additional steamer rates are quoted from'''£loo to £ll4 saloon single, and £165 to £l9O saloon ,return. Other first and second-class rates are correspondingly reduced.
