; ♦ n The monthly meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animala, was held last night. Present: Meßdameß E. Cross and A. E. Turner, and Messrs H. P. Bridge, A. W. MacGillivray,J. O. Jameson, J. C. Lord J. SpUler, and H. F. Herbert. - {' Mr J. C. Lord was appointed chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr Robert "Wilson, deputy chapman. The Canterbury Saleyards Co. wrote fliat new cow-pens had liow been erected at Addington yairds, which stalled each cow separately./ It 'was resolved to thank the oftmpany for their .action, and also for erecting special pens for dogs. It was resolved l to make enquiries with a view'to forming a branch of the Society in the Ashburton district. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £l9O 9fl 9d. ,
Mr J. Q. Jameson, the retiring chairman, was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services during the past three years. , . '
