The Grafton correspondent of a Sydney paper is responsible for the following:—"Bill Sonter, old-time kero ; of many contests in the boxing ring, tackled a large swordfish which was moving lazily in the water, scarcely deep enough to cover its greet body, at Yamba. Sonter clutched its tail and tried to pull the 9cwt of fish 6horewards. The deep-sea visitor at first showed no resentment, and Sonter stepped closer and stooped to tighten his grip. Then the fish took a hand in the proceedings, and the water became violently agitated. Showers of spray shot skywards, and Sonter for a brief space, swung to and fro at the end of the monster's tail. The strain was too great, however, and Banter's grip loosened, then relaxed. The swordfish drew his tail clear, and with terrific force sent Sonter sprawling in knee-deep water. When Tie had recovered, Sonter lassooed the swordfish. and with help hauled it ashore. It measured 16ft 4in from tip to tap, with a sword sft 3in .long and as sharp as a razor. Its girth measurement was Bffc. » It was related by the chairman of the Tramway Board at the meeting yesterday that while the Show traffic was in progress in Cathedral square last week, a woman holding a baby and carrying a push-oartj and with two email children following her, battled her way through the crowd in order to board a car, and was in danger of being run over. The general manager was standing by at the time, and he caught hold of the two children and; rescued them from danger. Such action, the chairman added, helped to prevent accidents.
