The Supreme Court confirmed the rigorous sentences of the Philippine High Court condemning eleven 'members of the Philippine Constabulary to death, and sixy-six to life imprisonment in chains. The incident arose through a quarrel between the Manila police and the constabulary, the latter charging policemen with having insulted a constable's wife. A fight ensued, and one constable was killed. The Court sentenced eleven con-: stables to life imprisonment in chains, and sixty-six to imprisonment in chains for seventeen years. The prisoners escaped after incarceration,- but were recaptured. The Court then increased the sentences to the limit allowed by law.'
